Murdoch FLEXITRACK

NOTRE DAME UNIPATH

A student can choose an option in Year 11 but change to another option during Year 11 or for Year 12. TAFE, Workplace Learning and Murdoch Flexitrack are complementary provided a plan is in place.

COURSE WORK

This option provides access to either Alternate Entry into some University pre-entry courses, further TAFE studies, or preparation for the workforce.

RELIGION AND LIFE COURSE SELECTION:                       

Religion and Life General

ENGLISH COURSE SELECTION:                                             

Either English General or English Foundation (Students who have failed to achieve Band 8 in the NAPLAN Reading or Writing component will be required to enrol in English Foundation). Students working towards Murdoch Flexitrack or Notre Dame UniPath in Year 12 could choose English ATAR.

MATHEMATICS COURSE SELECTION:                                 

Not required but recommended.

CERTIFICATE COURSE REQUIREMENT:                                

A Certificate II Course (or higher) is required to be completed in full if a student is studying a Foundation Course in Maths or English in Year 12.

For students not studying Foundation Courses Certificate Courses are not compulsory but are available for students to select.

FURTHER SELECTIONS:

Students can choose four further courses to study (one of these subjects must be List B subject). If a Maths course is chosen students will choose three further courses. List A and List B courses can be found here with links to learning areas pages and more information on courses.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION:

Not applicable to this Pathway. Course work option involves 5 days at school but a move into vocational education is possible.

WORKPLACE LEARNING:

Not applicable to this Pathway. Course work option involves 5 days at school but a move into Workplace learning is possible.

MURDOCH UNIVERSITY flexitrack high COURSE:

Available in Year 12 for students who attain an ‘B’ Grade in Year 11 General English.

WACE REQUIREMENTS:

All pathways must adhere to the conditions outlined by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority for the completion of the Western Australia Certificate of Education. Information relating to these conditions can be found HERE

VOCATIONAL

This option provides access to either further TAFE studies, university, or preparation for the workforce.

Either English General , English Foundation or English Preliminary (see below).

(Students who have not achieved OLNA Reading and/or Writing will be required to enrol in Foundation English.  Please note Preliminary English is determined on a case by case basis).  

MATHEMATICS COURSE SELECTION:                                 

Not required but recommended.

CERTIFICATE COURSE REQUIREMENT:                                

A Certificate II Course (or higher) is required to be completed in full if a student is studying a Foundation Course in Maths or English in Year 12.

For students not studying Foundation Courses Certificate Courses are not compulsory but are available for students to select.

FURTHER SELECTIONS:

Students can choose four further courses to study (one of these subjects must be List B subject). If a Maths course is chosen students will choose three further courses. List A and List B courses can be found here with links to learning areas pages and more information on courses.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION:

Students must apply (through the College) to attend an external TAFE one day a week to complete a Certificate Course.

WORKPLACE LEARNING:

A student may choose to fit a Workplace Learning opportunity with a TAFE course if they are complementary. This would need to be discussed with the Head of Careers and VET.

combined wpl/vocational option

Some VET (TAFE) Courses require students to complete WPL as part of the Certificate Qualification. In these courses students attend school three days a week. TAFE one day and a workplace one day. Students who undertake this program only study five courses/subjects at school.

MURDOCH UNIVERSITY flexitrack high COURSE:

Not applicable to this Pathway initially. Flexitrack is still an option in Year 12 if circumstances change provided the student meets entry requirements.

WACE REQUIREMENTS:

All pathways must adhere to the conditions outlined by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority for the completion of the Western Australia Certificate of Education. Information relating to these conditions can be found HERE.

TAFE INFORMATION:

Students interested in completing a traineeship should speak to the Head of Careers and VET.

Important note: Completion of Certificate Courses improves a student's chances of being accepted into competitive 'TAFE' courses.

This option cannot be taken up until the end of Year 12 if the student meets the entry requirements. They are a ‘B’ grade in General English in Year 11.

FLEXITRACK PROVIDES DIRECT ENTRY INTO ANY MURDOCH UNIVERSITY COURSE WITH AN INDICITIAVE ATAR OF 70

Murdoch Flexi Track (MFT) program completed in Year 12 as a stand-alone subject. Students would study MFT as a replacement for one subject in Year 12. In Year 11 a student chooses 6 subjects but would drop one in Year 12 to take up Flexitrack.

ENGLISH COURSE SELECTION:                                             

English ATAR (Possibility of English General through consultation with Head of Languages.)

Students must have achieved NAPLAN Band 8 or OLNA Category 3 in Reading and Writing

MATHEMATICS COURSE SELECTION:                                 

Not required but recommended. Students who have failed to achieve Band 8 in the NAPLAN Numeracy component will be required to enrol in Foundation Mathematics.

CERTIFICATE COURSE REQUIREMENT:                                

A Certificate II Course (or higher) is required to be completed in full if a student is studying a Foundation Course in Maths or English in Year 12.

For students not studying Foundation Courses Certificate Courses are not compulsory but are available for students to select.

If a Mathematics subject is not chosen students must choose FOUR further subjects to study including at least one List B Subject.

In Year 12 a student must be at school full time to complete Flexitrack. In Year 11 a Workplace Learning or TAFE option may be complementary. This would need to be discussed with the Head of Careers and VET.

NOTRE DAME UNIPATH

This option cannot be taken up until the end of Year 12 if the student meets the entry requirements. They are a ‘B’ grade in General English in Year 11.

UNIPATH PROVIDES DIRECT ENTRY INTO A RANGE OF NOTRE DAME COURSES WITH AN INDICATIVE ATAR OF 70

In Year 11 a student chooses 5 OR 6 subjects. UniPath is run one day a week for 12 weeks on the Notre Dame campus.
