Seton, we view literacy and numeracy as the backbone of lower secondary education, and support that with small sized classes. Recognising Year 7 as a transitional year, the College runs a highly successful Cross Curricular Skills Program.
We aim to develop good study habits by placing the emphasis on continuous assessment, including formal examinations. Over the years students are involved in National/Australasian Competitions that include English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. Academic Extension Courses in Mathematics, English, Science and Society & Environment are run in Years 8, 9 and 10. Such opportunities for accelerated learning offer students the motivation to strive for academic excellence and also give them a head start in their Upper Secondary studies.
As part of our creative learning environment, the College runs an Excellence and Creativity Program to ensure students are both challenged and enriched. The Program is holistic and incorporates the Sciences, Humanities and the Arts.
Communication between parents and the school is seen as vital and genuinely encouraged. Online access to SEQTA, annual Parent/Teacher Evenings and special Information Evenings for Years 7, 10 and 12 are just some of the more formal structures offered.
As students grow in maturity they are presented with a greater range of options from which to choose. In turn, each of the subjects listed below will also offer a variety of different Courses.
Upper Secondary
The academic rigour necessary for the many students with Tertiary aspirations is offered with a full and varied array of Courses. For those students who are more vocationally inclined, we offer an excellent range of Pathways that lead to Secondary Graduation and entry into TAFE or even University. These students do an INSTEP Course involving Workplace Learning arranged by the College but done externally one day a week.
In addition to Religion and Life, senior students select from courses offered at General/ATAR level and the six certificate courses which can all be found in the list here.
