Course Description
The Certificate II in Dance provides students with a foundation of skills and knowledge across all aspects related to the Dance industry. This includes developing dance technique in a variety of styles, exploring artistic expression and choreography skills, preparing for performance and events, designing and coordinating production elements, and conditioning the body whilst also gaining knowledge of safe dance, anatomy and nutrition. Students are given many opportunities throughout the course to develop their creative thinking skills, project coordination, and working with others safely and professionally. Completion of the Certificate II in Dance aims to enhance future employment prospects and higher study opportunities for students within the dance industry and with the wider community of creative industries.
Course Objectives
This course is a preparatory qualification that can be used as a pathway into specialist qualifications within the dance industry including the Certificate III in Dance offered in year 11/12.
On completion students will:
• have developed the knowledge and skills required to contribute to workplace occupational health and safety (OHS) processes.
• be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to work effectively with others.
• have developed and be able to apply basic industry practices within the creative arts industries.
• have developed skills and knowledge in one or more dance styles including Contemporary, Jazz and/or Street Dance
Units & Electives
Completion of ten units of competence is required in order to be eligible for the award of Certificate II in Dance. These include:
7 core units
3 elective units
Students will be assessed in each unit through a combination of written tasks and practical demonstrations and performances.
All Certificate II Dance students will essentially become a Year 10 Dance Troupe who will be selected to perform at a variety of showcases, events and dance festivals. Students will be expected to attend all rehearsals as these performances will be part of their assessment and evidence of course completion.
Dance Pathway & PREREQUISITES
Students with a passion for dance or interest in the creative industries are encouraged to choose this course.
Certificate II in Dance must be completed in Year 10 to be eligible for the Certificate III Dance course in Year 11/ 12.
