In this course, you will build on your existing knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to designing and producing food products, with a focus on nutrition and breakfast. You will explore and evaluate how factors such as food safety, preservation, preparation, presentation, and sensory perceptions influence the ways people consume food. The curriculum includes activities such as designing and creating nutritious breakfast dishes, engaging in MasterChef-style challenges, and understanding the role of different nutrients in our diet.

The frequency of this subject is three periods per week.

Assessment

In the Year 10 Food Specialisations course, students will be assessed according to the College Assessment Policy, with a focus on demonstrating outcomes from the Technologies Learning Area. Throughout the year, students will be evaluated on multiple occasions using a variety of assessment strategies that include both practical and theoretical components.

Students will be required to apply their knowledge of nutrients, food safety principles, and food processing skills to prepare and present foods that promote healthy eating. Assessments will cover their ability to use techniques for food preparation, presentation, and preservation, as well as their understanding of the physical and sensory properties of food and how these influence perceptions.

This subject is suitable for students who may wish to study Human Biology and Food Science and Technology General course in Years 11 and 12.
