The Music course provides students with a dynamic opportunity to deepen and expand their musical skills and knowledge through a variety of activities in performance, composition, aural development, and analysis. Students engage in both solo and ensemble performances, exploring a broader repertoire on their chosen instruments while enhancing their technical proficiency, expressive abilities, and stylistic authenticity. They compose purpose-driven music, incorporating music technology to creatively present their work. Additionally, students sharpen their aural skills and memory, enabling them to accurately identify, sing/play, and notate melodic and rhythmic patterns, chord changes, and progressions. The course also encourages experimentation with improvisation.

Assessment
Students will be assessed through various methods, including live performances for an audience, in-class performances, compositions, and written tasks. A key component of the assessment will be a performance with an ensemble, such as a rock band, at a local venue, where students will demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired in this course. Attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory and will be considered as part of the assessment criteria.
Pathway & Pre-Requisites
This course serves as an excellent introduction to the General Music program in Years 11 and 12. As part of their ensemble assessment, students are required to participate in a College ensemble and must also receive instrumental or vocal tuition.
