Year 8 Visual Art is a new in-depth lower school one year course. It focuses on practical skills in the area of sculpture and includes an element of written work.

Visual Arts encourages creativity and self-expression through a variety of fun-filled structured learning activities. The course offers exciting and challenging opportunities to develop skills in drawing, sculpture, painting and print-making, resulting in original art that reflects the individual as well as society.

Each semester will focus on a student brief that starts with research, drawing, design development and results in a final resolved artwork. Creative research and drawing are encouraged as they promote artistic growth, divergent thinking and originality. Artists will be studied to inspire ideas and techniques.

A main focus of the course is to encourage a sense of purpose, enjoyment and personal satisfaction through the creation of original art. Art is showcased in Seton's annual Brother Francis Art Exhibition. Students also have the opportunity to enter their artwork in numerous exhibitions such as Atwell, Angelico, Nufarm and the St George's Exhibition.

Assessment of the course focuses on the following:
