Drama means ‘action’. Action means doing. In Year 8 Drama - the focus is on the practical!
Year 8 Drama is a new in-depth lower school exploration of the theatrical arts. It focuses heavily on developing the practical skills and tools required by actors and performers through improvisation, role-play, scripted performance and play-building. Through the engagement with these different modes of theatre, students will be given a strong fundamental understanding of the power of theatre as well as improving communication, confidence, team-work and problem solving. This is all done in a dynamic and exciting environment where students can explore and engage safely and confidently.
Students will be creating and presenting drama and by doing so will develop:
How to use voice and movement to communicate to an audience
The ability to create and portray a character
Script-writing and storytelling skills
An understanding of the history and importance of theatre
A critical eye for performance
Assessment
Whilst the focus will be mainly on practical and performance based assessments, students will also be assessed on their ability to document the drama process, analyse and critique performances and create new works.
The idea is that all students who choose Year 8 Drama will be giving themselves a strong platform for further study in Drama, especially in their practical skills.
