Vocational Education and Training (VET) is based on partnership between schools, governments and industry and is well-known for its practical style of learning.
Whether you’re looking to move straight into the workforce, or to take an initial step in your tertiary education, VET qualification can take you where you want to go.
Australia’s VET sector is based on a partnership. VET qualifications are provided by government institutions, called Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions, as well as private institutions.
Industry and employer groups contribute to training policies and priorities, and in developing qualifications that deliver skills to the workforce.
A large part of VET courses incorporates work experience. In schools the course is titled Workplace Learning (ADWPL). This course is a "hands on" course that involves a combination of on the job experience and assignment-based work.
The central objective of ADWPL is to offer students the opportunity to experience a variety of job roles and develop generic employability skills in a safe and structured environment. The course is highly recommended for students not taking a university-bound pathway.
This course allows students to develop work readiness skills that hold them in fine stead for TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships, and direct entry to the workforce. Workplace learning provides opportunities for students to develop skills in the workplace and obtain credit towards the WACE. Students are placed in an appropriate work situation and are required to maintain a formal record of workplace learning.
